If you read the post How a Gratitude Journal Changed My Life you’ve seen the benefits I’ve noticed in my life ever since I’ve started this. If you’ve read the 3 Steps to Implement a Gratitude into Your Life and you’ve actually implemented it, then you are already benefitting from it.
I’ve been experiencing with a different adaptation that I would like to share with you today, it’s what I would call the 3 Step Journal. In this form of journaling there are three steps for what you write. I always do it in the evening so I will share my experience based on that. However this exercise can also be used in the morning, in case you prefer.
First you begin with Gratitude. So the first lines you write are about something that made you feel grateful during that day or that you’re grateful for in your life right now. Write as many things as you like. Three would be a good start.
Then, in the second step, you write about Yourself. You write whatever thoughts or feelings are going through you. Basically, you journal a bit. That is often a liberating experience that gives more perspective to whatever is going on in your life or within you on that moment.
Lastly, you write a few lines as if you were about to die, almost as an Obituary Line. You write about your values or about how you envision yourself, what would you like to achieve and/or the kind of person you want to be. That will help you keep focus on what’s important for you, what you want/have to prioritize in order to be more aligned with a peaceful dead-bed.
I find this 3 Step Journal exercise quite powerful and ever since I’ve started doing it, I feel more attuned with my heart, more connected with myself, more truthful. It’s almost like Mari Kondo’s tidying up method, but for the mind and the soul.
