In the beginning of 2017, I started a Gratitude Journal! Now that the year is coming to an end, I will share how did it go for me and why a Gratitude Journal is something everybody should have.
First of all, I realized that you can’t be grateful and upset at the same time. The gratitude mood is something peaceful and joyful that makes you relax and be here now. If I was a annoyed about something that happened during the day, everytime I changed my focus to all the things I felt grateful for, the negative feelings would just vanish. It was a bit like when you switch on the light in a dark room and suddenly the darkness disappears.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that once I went on and on in this gratitude journey, my focus changed. Throughout the day I became more and more aware of the little special things I felt grateful for and I was paying more attention to the beauty. Beauty is everywhere if we just have the right mindset to see it and to appreciate it. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” indeed! I feel much more aware now that one year ago as if I was more awake. I feel like I am more peaceful, therefore I can appreciate and enjoy more the little things and the living here in the now!
According to a recent Research Study from the University of California San Diego’s School of Medicine, gratitude not only makes people feel happier and more fulfilled, but it can actually save people’s lives! According to the Study’s Author Paul J. Mills: people who practice gratitude have better heart health, specially less infammation and a healthier heart rhythm.
But don’t take my word for it, nor science’s investigations on the subject: try it yourself! I intend to continue on my gratitude journey during 2018. And I challenge you to join me! Get a notebook or a diary or an agenda and start writing at least one thing a day that you feel grateful for.
In my next post I’ll share a few easy steps that may help you implement gratitude into Your life.
