Do you remember that movie from the 90s: The Crow? Although I haven’t seen it for many years, I remember some passages well and I will possibly watch it again soon. And what do The Crow and Yoga have to do with each other? Well, nothing, except in my cinephile imagination, but Crow is also a Yoga pose. It’s a challenging one! This week, one of the classes was focused in a growing sequence until we reach this pose. Our Teacher Johnny said: “These poses are metaphors for the way we face life”. Somehow, that resonated with my heart and that was one of the most successful classes I’ve had in this journey.
According to Johnny, to do the Crow you need three skills: strength, knowledge and courage; being that an excess of one of them may compensate for the lack of others. In fact, as I reflected upon these words, I conclude that they are not only truthful as the way we face each of the poses during the class is a bit like the dance of life. It’s not the natural ups and downs that make the difference, but our attitude while facing those challenges and to keep the resilience in the most complicated poses until we feel more and more comfortable with each of these experiences.
Another clear thing during this week, was the rise of stress due to our preparation for the final exam (our final exam is teaching a class). The energy in the room was clearly growing heavy, especially on Thursday. I had to take a moment for myself, walk on the beach while listening the fastest mood changer in the world: MUSIC and journal a bit. How come I am always so affected by the energy that surrounds me? How can we create an energy field that is so strong that our peace and stillness is not affected by the waves around us? After given it some thought (well I’ve been thinking about this one for a long time for many moments throughout my life) I realised that the answer is inside of me. I have to be so focused and in such a peaceful state that I find the stillness I long for inside of me regardless of whatever surrounds me. And that really is a life’s work!
Another thing that Johnny said that stayed with me and that I’ll leave with you for this week was “each day when we wake up we have to re-commit with the person we want to be”. Each day! One day at a time! One moment at a time: “re-commit with the person we want to be”. Let’s go!
