How Meditation is changing my life

My journey with meditation begun a few years ago. Working at a job I didn’t like and having an unfulfilling daily life was quite tuff and I found in meditation the refugee that I needed. I started with what is still to this day my favourite way to meditate: the Boho Beautiful Guided Meditations.

Meditation is the single most important thing you can do in your life. Meditating is like showering the soul, I mean, think about it: our minds are polluted during great part of the day as if we were carrying heavy clouds inside of us. If we wash our teeth every single day, if we shower our body, why not take a moment to clean our soul and contemplate?

Taking a moment to sit down with yourself, without distractions, embracing the present moment can transform your day and ultimately your life. Meditation is a practice of spiritual awakening that every single person, from shamans to yogis, do. It has been proven that meditation has high therapeutic benefits and as Dr. Joe Dispenza explains in Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, it is the key to raise our vibrational frequency and use our energy to create.

And the best part is that it can be done everywhere by anyone. It’s an escape to yourself, with yourself. I recall The Skin I Live In by Pedro Almodovar and the central role that meditation had for one of the characters of that masterpiece.

So why don’t we do it more often?

I believe that one of the main barriers for not doing it is laziness and lack of habit. We are so used to listen to our “monkey mind” all the time that sitting down still doing nothing sounds more like a torture, rather than an escape. We are also using distractions all the time from cell phones to other people and what exactly are all these activities distracting us from? They are distracting us from getting to know ourselves, who we truly are, our emotions. Facing ourselves may sound quite scary because we are simply not ready to deal with it. We are raised in such a way that we fill up our lives with all kinds of activities and we never actually take the time to sit down with ourselves.

Meditation is teaching me to be more grateful every single day, it’s teaching me about inner peace, something that I and only I can give myself. And above all, meditation has been teaching me about being more aware! About being here, now and enjoying each moment for what it is without judgment. It’s a feeling of freedom and lightness like any other!

Don’t take my word for it: try it yourself! There are several guided meditations available online and you can choose the one that suits you. And if – like me – you always like to know the science behind things: read Dr. Joe Dispenza’s Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, the book that clarifies why meditation is the most important tool of our lives and – I may add – the book that changed my life.

Essential oils have an important role in meditation practices and they may help you attain a relaxed focused elevated state of being. In the next post I will share some of the most powerful essential oils that will help you get in the meditating mood and that I personally use during my meditation practices.

“People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills; and you too are especially inclined to feel this desire. But this is altogether un-philosophical, when it is possible for you to retreat into yourself at any time you want. There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind, especially if he has within himself the kind of thoughts that let him dip into them and so at once gain complete ease of mind; and by ease of mind, I mean nothing but having one’s own mind in good order. So constantly give yourself this retreat and renew yourself. You should have to hand concise and fundamental principles, which will be enough, as soon as you encounter them, to cleanse you from all distress and send you back without resentment at the activities to which you return”
