This may sound a bit weird, but writing your own obituary may actually help you in truly understanding what your goals are and taking the necessary steps to achieve them.
Writing your obituary means you will look back at your life and write down all the things you wish to be remembered for, all the things that truly matter when you depart from this life form. As you do this exercise, you will understand what is really important for you, what are your priorities. And while doing so, you will also realize how close or far are you from achieving them, what are the necessary steps towards those goals and what are the deviations you are taking. This will translate into an intimate reflection where you will analyse yourself and see yourself in a new light.
Having this exercise present throughout your life, will allow you to keep track in the direction you are taking and – ultimately – it will compel you to take a look at your daily actions and behaviours to ensure they are supporting you in taking the direction you wish to have. Because writing your own obituary is not only an act of establishing the values that you wish to live by, but also establishing the kind of person you want to be every single day!
