I’ve decided to start with my favorite family of the story. Even though both the Targaryens and the Starks are extremely fascinating as well – and each family has their particular charms – I am a huge fan of the Lannisters, mostly because of the idiosyncrasies – and contradictions – that we can find amongst them.
Aromatherapy is very effective and, therefore, can assist human beings in their journey. Let’s find out which essential oils could be powerful for our favourite characters:
Tyrion Lannister
Tyrion is the one I have heard more people referring to as their favorite character. He is a very funny guy and extremely clever. He’s an underdog, because of the way he was born. He has deep wounds from his childhood, especially when it comes to his place in the family and his relationship with his father (his mother died during labour). Tyrion hides that away in alcohol, women (sex in a desperate move to feel loved) and his sharp sense of humor. He would great benefit with the properties of Myrrth, the oil of Mother Earth, an oil that has an extremely high vibration and brings harmony and serenity to the soul healing all wounds.
Jaime Lannister
Jaime Lannister is my favorite character. He started off as an arrogant idiot, but as he evolves – and especially when he is broken down during is captivity – he brings a lot of things to the surface which propel him to act more like the person he is underneath. He is a man of honor very faithful to his values! For a long time his values were in the deep love and devotion he had for Cersei and that has somehow blinded him for the reality of facts. Just like Tyrion, Jaime is also an underdog who was blamed by everybody for unfairly killing the Mad King. However as one reaches deeper into Jaime’s story, it’s easy to conclude that this apparent act of treason was a brave act of mercy saving the entire city from the madness of the man seating in the throne. He used to hide away that sensitivity and misunderstanding with a haughty sense of humor, but he has been increasingly more humble as he started to get more and more attuned with himself. Jaime is a good soul and Sandalwood would create the necessary vibration around him, activating humility, spiritual devotion and clarity. It is not by chance that Sandalwood is often used during prayer and meditation and, therefore, it could greatly benefit Jaime as he finds redemption.
Cersei Lannister
Cersei is marked by a prophecy and she lives in a fear vibration, so she doesn’t look at means to reach goals. She thinks she inherited from her Father the ability to make things happen, but since unlike Tywin she lives in a lower vibrational frequency, she gets blind by her own fear and that makes her keep everybody away, including potential allies. She is extremely proud and she gives a whole new meaning to serving a cold revenge! Most of what she is, it’s a fruit of the way she grew up and the circumstances she got caught up in, like being a woman in a world ruled by men where she had to learn to be manipulative to ensure her own safety and her children’s. Ultimately that prophecy is what drives her, not knowing that those choices are exactly what will draw the prophecy to her! She’s basically manifesting what she believes in a perfect example of the laws of life. I do believe that she did love Jaime, but her wound was very deep in the sense that she couldn’t live the life she wanted nor be educated to rule, just for the simple fact of being a woman and – therefore – used as a trade coin when making allies between the great houses which ultimately lead her into becoming a bitter resentful fearful person. Clary Sage possesses the power to elevate Cersei to higher states of consciousness and awareness, as it balances the endocrine system.
Tywin Lannister
Tywin is a fantastic strategist, very intelligent and extremely cold. Everything (and everyone) has to play a role in the game of thrones and he knows it! He’s not emotional, he’s the man who embodies what cold revenge means. He’s also a fake in the sense that he sensors his son Tyrion and his behaviors and then he does the same thing in the shadows, so he is not a man of honor. Tywin is above all moved by power. He could really benefit with an oil that would release his joy and lightness, something from the citrus family, like Wild Orange, often known as the oil of abundance, it inspires creativity, spontaneity and generosity, characteristics that would turn Tywin from a Masterful Strategist into an Inspiring Leader, giving a whole new meaning to “a Lannister always pays his debts”.
Joffrey Baratheon
Joffrey Lannister is a cold hard boy with a twisted mind, whose Mother often asked herself if that was the price to pay for incest. Indeed, Joffrey seems mad as hell and unable to display any kind of emotion towards anyone. White Fir could assist Joffrey into healing generational patterns and creating new pathways, freeing him and assisting him in feeling spiritually protected which would help him to release the negativity trapped in his body and soul.
Ser Sandor Clegane
The Hound is a warrior hiding away in toughness, but who is guided – deep down – by his own sense of kindness (remember how he tried to protect Sansa from Joffrey’s madness?). More than that, Sandor is a man wounded heavily by his brother during childhood, pain that he never overcame. The ideal essential oil for deep pain who is said to help the walking wounded is Helichrysum. This powerful flower is not only extremely restorative for the skin, but also tremendously healing for severe emotional wounds.
Ser Gregor Clegane
The Mountain seems to be overly serious and, by the few things we know about him (he never actually had chapters of himself in the books, so we always see him from the perspective of other characters) he is extremely cruel. Since we’re not sure where that coldness came from, but we know it often turns victims into “butchers”, what we would need to release would be Gregor’s inner child healing the heart and leading him into emotional joy and playfulness. The perfect oil for this end would be Ylang Ylang.
Lord Varys
The sneaky spider, a man with a conscience who – above all – wants the peace of the realm and to ensure that it is lead by a capable leader. Varys demonstrates care for the people and, even though he is a master in blending in, he seems genuinely concerned about giving Westeros a peaceful and properous time. Deprived of his own masculinity, but keeping overall good intentions in his heart and a deep wisdom, Varys could use the assistance of Frankincense, one of the highest vibrational essential oils, with the capability to open, protect and send spiritual darkness away. Frankincense allows closer connection with Divinity (therefore being used throughout time for religious practices and prayer) and cultivates healthy masculinity.
Lord Baelish
One of the most intelligent characters of this whole series, a manipulative bastard that ends caught up in his own poison (at least as far as the tv series is concerned). Even though Little Finger has always been in love with Catelyn, he is also a vengeful person with a thirst for power. He would benefit greatly with the properties of Melaleuca, as this oil eliminates parasitic and toxic energies and encourages an individual to relinquish all forms of betrayal, especially self-betrayal.
Grand Maester Pycelle
Grand Maester Pycelle has always served the crown, but from what we have seen, he was always more interested in serving his own agenda than the best interests of the people. He seems to be a reasonable Maester who didn’t really dove into the resources available for research and development, spending his time in self-indulging pleasures or political plots. An essential oil that would appeal more to his sense of community, like Cedarwood, would be a great benefit for Grand Meister Pycelle allowing him to serve the Crown with more compassion and care.
Maester Qyburn
Often referred to as “the mad scientist” on the tv series, Qyburn is, above all, a man of science who sees no means to find out more about any subject he lays his hands (and his brain) upon! He likes to investigate and for proper investigation he needs to experiment, doing it in way that would often be referred to as unethical. What moves Qyburn is his deep hunger for knowledge and for understanding the world around him. A great analytical mind that saves no resources can benefit from essential oils that will bring him closer to his heart, allowing for more compassion, marrying sensibility with sensitivity, like for example Lime. Lime is the oil of the zest of life and, as it allows one to be fully energized and focus for work (as it is a characteristic of citrus oils). Lime connects and re-awakens heart energy, bringing joy and kindness.
Bronn
Bronn seems to be a light hearted funny man who, above all, wants to have a good time. Not surprisingly, he became friends with Tyrion, who also has that bon vivant vibe. Now, more than ever (as far as the tv series is concerned), Bronn has a difficult choice ahead of him and Rosemary can assist him in that endeavor, since it is the oil of knowledge and transition, it is very good to bring mental clarity and enhance memory, things that Bronn will have to look further into before he takes action.
Euron Greyjoy
If you’re not watching the tv series, you may find weird that Euron is being placed in the House Lannister list. Even though, in the books we didn’t know many details about Euron yet, in the tv series, he presents himself as a twisted funny and unscrupulous individual. He is completely scattered from life and, at the light of current events, he clearly needs to work on his priorities. Vetiver as the oil of centering and descending, would great benefit Euron, especially because he’s a guy who lives in the water most of the time while Vetiver grows deep inside the Earth and it can assist him into rooting himself, creating self-awareness and uncovering emotional issues leading him to catharsis.

I must confess that this set of posts is giving me great pleasure as it combines two of my greatest passions and their depth: game of thrones and aromatherapy! It’s endless what you can do with aromatherapy!
I’m really happy you liked Lime 🙂 It is one of my favourite essential oils!
Brilliant idea Natália! This whole Lime thing still keeps me thinking…
