Even though it is clear when the book was written and some of the passages are a bit dated, it contains very precious information towards achieving one’s desires in life. According to Napoleon Hill, the most important ingredients are Desire, Resilience and Faith! No wonder this is one of the bibles when it comes to the law of attraction. In Think & Grow Rich we can read examples of the path of some of the wealthiest people at the time and the key points that lead them to successfully achieving goals.
There was also one thing that made this book particularly remarkable for me: the 9 invisible counsellors concept. Basically, the author says that he always gathered with his 9 counsellors mentally when it came to making decisions or debating a specific issue that was in his mind. This counselling was constituted by 9 dead personalities that the author admired or has a high opinion on and, therefore, would like to hear their advice. The names that immediately popped out into my head as I was reading these words were:
“As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison.”
“Deep down inside me a tiny voice was calling. At first scarcely audible, it persisted until I could no longer ignore it. It was the voice of the wild places, and I knew that it was now part of me forever.”
“Borders? I have never seen one. But I have heard they exist in the minds of some people.”
“We can not save people. We can only love them.”
“I have never been poor, only broke. Being poor is a frame of mind, being broke is only a temporary situation.”
“I adore wearing gems, but not because they are mine. You can’t possess radiance, you can only admire it.”
“Dreams without movement are delusions, escapes, kid’s play. You have to put your feet into your dreams if they’re ever going to be reality. The dreamers we know and love today are the ones who worked the hardest.”
“Nothing is softer or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it. Kindness in words creates confidence, kindness in thinking creates profundity, kindness in giving creates love.”
“Love is the great miracle cure.”
These would be my 9 invisible counsellors! Who are yours?
