Bad Times at the El Royale

I watched this movie on the airplane on my way here and I really felt like I had to share it with you! I haven’t felt like this while watching a movie since Tarantino’s films in the 90s. Bad Times at the El Royale is so intense and original that you just get hooked from the first scene. As you know, I’ve been disconnected from most of the movies in 2018. I ended up watching some of the main ones, but I wasn’t following up on the movie-scene. So coming across this film, was a big surprise. I saw the poster, wasn’t sure about it, but then watched the trailer and decided to give it a chance.

The movie takes place in the 60s in a hotel in the border between Nevada and California. Seven strangers end up meeting at the El Royale and a peculiar set of events starts happening. Jeff Bridges plays a priest showing us again why is one of the best actors out there; Cynthia Erivo plays a singer (with a magnificent scene that could be in a Lynch film); Jon Hamm is still hard to dissociate from Don Draper, so it was not by chance that he was cast for his role; Lewis Pullman has a brilliant performance has the hotel receptionist; Dakota Johnson appears to be the hippie one; Cailee Spaeny has a mysterious role and Chris Hemsworth plays the controversial Billy Lee, whose look may have a small resemblance with Jim Morrison. Definitely one of those movies that stays with you!

The cherry on top is the soundtrack (and the use of music per scene) which is just incredible (Congratulations Drew Goddard: great work!). So there isn’t much more to say other than: watch it!
